Getting scheduled and started with your rotation with us at Oklahoma State University Medical Center
Please be aware that you or your school will be charged a fee for your rotation, depending upon the terms of the signed Affiliation Agreement between OSU-CHS and your school. This Agreement must be in place in order for you to complete your rotation! Please contact your Clinical Education department to make sure this agreement has been signed by both parties. Graduate Medical Education cannot accept payments directly from students on the first day of your rotation!
IMPORTANT!!
In order to expedite the use of MEDITECH (electronic medical records program) while on your rotation with OSUMC, please go to the following webpage and complete the “Exhibit 1 Form”. This must be sent back to Graduate Medical Education via email or fax two weeks prior to the start of your rotation. The website is: https://www.osumc.com/medical-students
Click on Exhibit 1 Form
- Complete all highlighted areas on pages 1-3 [make sure all information is filled out], list your rotation(s) and dates on page 4; complete exam on pages 5 & 6
- Send all 6 pages back to Rhonda Bogan in Graduate Medical Education in one PDF file mailto:[email protected].
The last two pages contain an exam covering the content of the student training videos. Please view all videos and complete the exam. Once the access forms and exam have been completed and received, you will receive your username and password information from IT in order to be able to log in the first day of your rotation. Watch each video and follow instructions, if you have any questions about the videos, please contact Stacey Kaze at [email protected].
Instructions for your first day of the rotation
- The day you arrive for your rotation at OSUMC (744 W 9th St, Tulsa OK 74127), report to Graduate Medical Education at 8:15 a.m.; we are located on the 2nd floor. You will not be allowed to work on the floors until you report to Graduate Medical Education to sign a Security Agreement to receive your student ID badge. Once you have filled out the Security Agreement, you will be sent to Human Resources to take a photo for your student ID badge. You must have your school-issued student ID badge and driver’s license with you to present to Human Resources. Once that step is complete, you may go to your scheduled rotation, or return to the Graduate Medical Education office for further instructions.
- You will be provided free meals while on rotation at OSUMC [this may not apply if you are rotating at other facilities]. After signing a Security Agreement, the last 4-digits of your SSN will become your code to enter the physician’s dining room.
- Dress in business casual with your school lab coat. Some programs require you to bring your own scrubs; therefore, have our own with you if needed.
- If you need to cancel the rotation for any reason, please email or call as soon as possible as there is a waiting list of students interested in rotating here at OSUMC.
- OSUMC does NOT have student housing available. If you are in need of housing, there is a housing list of individuals that open a room in their home for rotating out-of-town students, and some hotels close by. If you need this list, please send an email before your rotation.

Curriculum
Our two- and four-week diagnostic radiology medical student audition rotations are focused on teaching medical students the essentials of diagnostic radiology in a welcoming and educational atmosphere. This rotation will be done at the Oklahoma State University Medical Center, under the guidance of primarily the radiology residents and local radiology faculty. The medical student will shadow the radiology residents on a daily basis, attend daily lectures, and scheduled educational conferences. Students will be expected to rotate with radiology residents working in interventional radiology, neuroradiology, chest and body imaging, ultrasound and nuclear medicine, and musculoskeletal imaging. Each day it is up to the student to seek out another resident to sit with, gaining a wide experience during their rotation.
Goals
- To provide a broader understanding of the principles of radiology and a familiarity with the many diagnostic techniques available, there value and limitations, and how they are best used in the management of patients.
- To train the medical students to formulate a basic differential diagnoses for common radiologic findings.
Objectives
- Be able to interpret major findings on a chest radiograph.
-
Recognize basic anatomy and pathology as seen on radiographic studies.
-
Understand the importance of utilizing evidence based medicine in the application of diagnostic imaging.
Rotation Requirements

- You should upload one case/week of your rotation.
- Required end of rotation lecture
- By the end of your last week of rotation, you should choose your best case from the “cases of the week” and present it to the department. You will present this case in the radiology conference room using Powerpoint. This should be done before your rotation can be completed.
- Recommended reading below should be completed after being dismissed for the day.
Rotation Resources
